The number of Canadians diagnosed with oral cancer is continuing to increase every year. Oral cancer is often discovered in the late stage development which is the primary cause for high mortality rate. Fortunately, oral cancer is one of the most treatable diseases with early detection and diagnosis. Our practice is concerned about oral cancer and we want to help identify any oral abnormalities that can lead to cancer.
ViziLite ® Plus Exam
The ViziLite Plus exam is quick and painless. It is typically combined with a regular dental exam and it is recommended to be done annually. To provide a brief overview of the examination process, here is what to expect:

ViziLite ® Plus Exam
The ViziLite Plus exam is quick and painless. It is typically combined with a regular dental exam and it is recommended to be done annually. To provide a brief overview of the examination process, here is what to expect:
- You will rinse your mouth with a raspberry flavored vinegar based cleansing solution
- The lights in the operatory room will be dimmed down
- The ViziLite Plus which is comprised of a chemiluminescent light source will be used to look for any abnormal tissue in the mouth
- Abnormal areas will appear to be white under the specialized light technology.
Increased Risk
- patients ages 18-39
High Risk
- patients age 40 and older
- tobacco users (any age, any type within 10 years)
Highest Risk
- patients age 40 and older with lifestyle risk factors (tobacco and/or alcohol use)
- previous history of oral cancer
