Invisalign
Invisalign is a set of custom-made clear trays that gradually reposition your teeth towards the ideal position. You will graduate to a new set of aligners about every two weeks.
Invisalign is often covered by insurance policies under “orthodontics”, and may cost about the same as traditional braces. Please consult our office staff and we will be glad to help you determine whether your insurance plan is eligible for Invisalign treatment.
Here are some benefits of Invisalign treatment:
● Traditional braces/orthodontics involves the use of metal brackets and wires, which easily trap food and harbour bacteria. This can lead to an increased risk of gum disease and cavities. Having braces therefore require meticulous and time-consuming oral hygiene care such as the use of floss threaders, proxabrushes, etc.
In contrast, Invisalign is removable and convenient in maintaining your oral hygiene during treatment. Brushing and flossing is quicker and easier than with traditional orthodontics.
● Sticky foods such as chewing gum or caramel toffee are very difficult to remove from the nooks and crannies of metal brackets, hooks, and wires. Hard foods like biting into apples, nuts or seeds, or hard candy can potentially cause brackets to break off from the tooth, requiring them to be rebonded. Such foods are therefore highly discouraged during traditional orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign do not have difficult to clean attachments to teeth, which means that you can eat whatever you want.
● The brackets, hooks, and wires of traditional braces are generally more uncomfortable and abrasive to the soft inner membranes of your mouth. Invisalign uses smooth plastic trays which feel comfortable to your lips, cheeks, and tongue.
● Your gum health may improve as teeth are repositioned for easier access with brushing and flossing
● Traditional braces are unsightly and are generally considered unappealing. Invisalign is almost invisible, as its name suggests, since it uses clear plastic trays which do not stand out to the undiscerning eye.
